SayWhatNews: Good morning Tyson. Thank you so much for interviewing with SayWhatNews. I am so excited to have the opportunity to sit down with you and chat. First, tell us who is Tyson Houseman?

Tyson: Well, simply put, my name is Tyson Houseman and I play Quil Ateara in the Twilight Saga. I’m 19 years old and I live in Vancouver, BC.

SayWhatNews: I have to tell you that I searched all over the internet and all the blogs, entertainment websites and other media sites are demanding “more Tyson, more Tyson”. Everyone wants to know everything about you, so lets start from the beginning. We know that your name is Tyson Houseman. Do you have a nick name?

Tyson: I don’t really have any nicknames that people use for me, but I can tell you that my three younger brothers call me ‘Tys’.

SayWhatNews: Now according to your Myspace page your hair color is black, your eyes or black and your weight is 145 lbs. How tall are you?

Tyson: Ha-ha, well I should probably start this answer by saying that I don’t actually have a Myspace page. I think the one you are referring to is a fake one that a fan has set up. I try to stay away from internet stuff like Myspace or Facebook or other social network sites. They take up way too much time that could be spent outside or doing something else instead of sitting in front of a screen. The fake Tyson’s information is a little off though, because my hair is dark brown, my eyes are brown, and my weight is now 158 lbs. The last time I checked, I was 5’9”, but that was a while ago and I might have grown since then.

SayWhatNews: That is funny. As we all know there are a lot of fake celebrity profiles on social-sites. You mentioned that you are 19. What is your date of birth?

Tyson: February 9th, 1990.

SayWhatNews: Where is your home town?

Tyson: Edmonton, Alberta.

SayWhatNews: Tell us about your family life.

Tyson: I have three younger brothers. We all have a great time together, but they usually all team up against me when we play fight and stuff like that.

SayWhatNews: I bet there are some fun stories behind that. What High School and College did you attend or currently attending?

Tyson: I graduated high school a year and a half ago, and the high school was Victoria School of the Visual and Performing Arts’ in Edmonton. It was an arts high school.

SayWhatNews: Tyson, reports are saying that you are a very talented musician and you play the guitar. Is this true? And how long have you been playing the guitar?

Tyson: Well I don’t know if ‘talented’ is the right word. I have been playing for 5 or 6 years, but I am self-taught and I have never performed in front of anyone, so I don’t really see myself as a musician.

SayWhatNews: You know now a days artists have their hands in all aspects of the entertainment industry. If the opportunity presented its self would you consider pursuing a music career?

Tyson: Maybe if I ever get the guts to play in front of people, then I might consider following that path. But my heart really does lie in every aspect of art. In high school I had a huge passion for photography. When I was a little kid I loved to draw. Recently along with acting, I’m starting to do a lot of painting and collage works. I love all kinds of art, and I would probably pursue any aspect of it if I felt that there was a lot that could come from that pursuit.

SayWhatNews: I’m sure fans would love to see that side of your art. Tyson, I see that you like snow-boarding and skate boarding. How were you introduced to those sports and how long have you enjoyed them?

Tyson: My uncle taught me to skateboard when I was younger. I then learned to love anything similar to that sport, like snowboarding or long-boarding. I am currently trying to learn how to surf.

SayWhatNews: Wow, those sports take a lot of coordination and balance, I don’t think I could handle that. So where is your favorite place to go snow-boarding and skate-boarding?

Tyson: My favorite mountain to snowboard is Marmot Basin in Jasper, Alberta. I haven’t been skateboarding much lately, but I love to long-board. Vancouver is full of really big hills to long-board down.

SayWhatNews: Your acting career has mainly involved theater productions. What theater company did you perform for and where?

Tyson: I haven’t ever been in any theater companies. All of the theater productions I was in were high school plays. I think they ended up on my acting resume because there was nothing else I could put on there and I wanted to fill it up a bit.

SayWhatNews: Oh, ok. I think we all have done that once or twice. Tell us some of the productions you have performed in.

Tyson: I was in a production called ‘The Laramie Project’ in which I played various characters. It was an ensemble piece, so there were around 22 actors playing roughly 200 parts in total. But not 200 each, that would be terrifying. I have also played ‘Romeo’ in ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Actually, I have played Romeo twice already in two different productions.

SayWhatNews: Tyson, how did you start performing in high school theater?

Tyson: I started in drama class back in high school, and we put on productions. I really enjoyed what I was doing so I continued to do plays in high school.

SayWhatNews: So, have you had any professional training?

Tyson: No, but this year I am taking acting classes twice a week here in Vancouver.

SayWhatNews: When did you realize you wanted to be an actor?

Tyson: I never really came to a realization that this was something I wanted to pursue. It just sort of happened. New Moon was the first audition that I had ever been to in my life. It was actually an open casting call, and I found out about it from a friend. I thought that it would be a good experience to have, and I never once expected that I would get it. But I did the open casting call, and I got a callback the next week. When they sent me the lines I had to learn for the callback, the casting director told me that there were two different scenes, one really long one and another really short one. He told me I only had to do the short one and they wouldn’t have time to do the long one and it wouldn’t even be in the film. But I learned the long scene anyways and when I did the callback I did the short scene and after-wards I asked if I could do the long one too, and they said yes. A week later I got a call saying I had gotten the part.

SayWhatNews: Its really something how things just fall into place. Now, since the announcement that you were joining the cast of New Moon, your name has become a household name. Tell us how much has your life changed since you have been linked to the Twilight saga?

Tyson: It has been quite a change, and I am trying to deal with it to the best of my abilities. It may have changed the circumstances of my day to day life, but I’m trying really hard not to let this change me as a person. I am still just Tyson. Hopefully nothing will change that or affect that in a negative way.

SayWhatNews: So, is it true that you had no idea you were going to a casting call for Twilight and the character Quil Ateara? Tell us about it.

Tyson: Yes. I remember when I went to the open casting call, it never actually said that it was for Twilight. It only said that it was casting for a “major motion picture” and that it was looking for people ages 15 to 25. When I got to the casting call it was filled with hundreds of Twilight fans carrying books and t-shirts and everything Twilight related. So when I saw the crowd I knew it was for Twilight.

SayWhatNews: Tyson you are a Native Indian of First Nation Descendent of the Cree Nation. Is it true that each member in the films Wolf Pack had to be of Native decent?

Tyson: Yes. At the open casting call they had to come down the line up and make sure everyone was of native descent, or they wouldn’t let them audition. I think it’s great that they cast native people for the parts, because it allows us to fall into the character much easier. There is a deeper level that we can relate to the character on.

SayWhatNews: I totally agree. Why have someone pretend to be when you can have the real thing. Its more believable. Your character Quil is one of the first of the Wolf Pack to “imprint”, but he causes a scandal because its on Emily's two-year-old niece, Claire. Now, Jacob (Taylor Lautner) makes an attempt to “explains that there is currently nothing romantic about it, and that Quil will be whatever Claire needs him to be at each point in her life, whether it be a brother, a friend, a protector, or a lover.”

Can you tell us what is the real meaning of “imprint”? I have read many different meanings but the one constant was that it meant finding your soul-mate.

Tyson: It really is essentially another way of saying “soul-mate”. When you imprint on someone, they become your reason for living. I think there is a line from the book that describes it pretty well, and it’s something along the lines of the fact that when you imprint on someone, there is almost a gravitational attraction to that person. You are no longer connected to the earth, you are connected to them.

SayWhatNews: Ooh now that is deep. What is your favorite quote from the movie?

Tyson: This first line that Quil says is “I’m Quil Ateara.” The way I got to say it was so fun, because I had to try to be seductive, but almost in a cheesy way. It was fun.

SayWhatNews: When I go see the film, I’m going to remember that. Now Tyson, can you give us any tidbits about the movie New Moon that has not been revealed yet?

Tyson: I can tell you that you are going to love Quil.

SayWhatNews: We Twilight fans already do. Is it true that you will also star in Eclipse (2010) and Breaking Dawn I (2011)?

Tyson: I have recently finished filming for Eclipse, but I haven’t heard anything from anyone yet about Breaking Dawn.

SayWhatNews: Tell us what was it like working with Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the amazing cast of New Moon? Do you have any funny stories from being on the set?

Tyson: It was great working with everyone. I remember this one time while we were taking a break from filming and me and all the wolf pack guys were throwing around a football, and Bronson Pelletier kicked the football but no one saw that when he kicked the football, his shoe flew off. So I was watching the football and I didn’t realize that the shoe was flying through the air and it ended up smacking me in the face. I had to go back to the makeup trailer to get all the dirt off of my face and redo all my makeup.

SayWhatNews: Ouch, that had to hurt. Tyson, I have to ask this for all of your girl fans. Are you single? If you are what are you looking for in a soul-mate?

Tyson: I don’t like to get into my personal life that much. But I can say that I like people with a lot of creative energy, and a passion for whatever it is that they do.

SayWhatNews: That’s understandable. Its best to keep some things to yourself when you are in the entertainment field. What’s in the future for Tyson Houseman?

Tyson: After I got the part of New Moon, I got an agent and my career as an actor is taking off in a lot of ways. I don’t know what’s in the future for me, but whatever it is, I’m excited for it.
