Interview: Billy Burke Speaks on Breaking Dawn, Red Riding Hood

While filming Breaking Dawn in Vancouver, Billy Burke recently spoke to Reel Movie News about the end of Twilight and his other upcoming film, Red Riding Hood.

The actor who plays the father of Kristen Stewart's Bella discussed the two films' parallels, working with his young, famous co-stars and more.

Here are some excerpts from Burke's chat with RMN:

On his Red Riding Hood role: It’s slightly, pardon the metaphor, off the path of the fairytale. I play Red Riding Hood's drunken, misguided father. It was one of the most beautiful sets I’ve ever been on. I kind of look like the drunken jolly green giant.

On working with Catherine Hardwicke on both films: When she called me and pitched me the idea, I was all in. She created the Twilight world and she did an amazing job with that. I figured if anyone could make a picture like this, it would be her.

Billy Burke to Return to Rizolli and Isles

According to EW:

“He made a quick — and sexy! — appearance in the series premiere of TNT’s new Rizzoli & Isles. Now Billy Burke (who, of course, plays Bella’s dad in the Twilight films) is back for more crime-fighting fun with series star Angie Harmon, and from the look of things, the sparks are definitely flying between Harmon’s hard-striving Det. Jane Rizzoli and Burke’s broody F.B.I. agent Gabriel Dean in the episode airing Aug. 30. But count on Rizzoli’s serial-killing nemesis, Hoyt, to ruin the mood.”

Pel got hooked on the series, which airs on TNT on Monday nights, after she saw the premiere with Billy Burke. You can get full episodes via the TNT official page. Billy Burke figures heavily in the first one.

'Twilight's' Billy Burke goes to the dark side in 'Drive Angry 3D'

There have been a number of supporting players in "The Twilight Saga" who have been able to use their newfound notoriety into bigger roles but none who have deserved the chance more than Billy Burke. Better known as Bella's dad Charlie Swan, Burke has been working in Hollywood for almost 20 years with small roles in films such as "Fracture," "Ladder 49," "Along Came A Spider" and TV series roles on TV series such as "Gilmore Girls," "My Boys" and "24." Now, he's getting his most significant break yet as a conniving and evil cult leader in the supernatural action thriller "Drive Angry 3D."

Visiting the set of "Angry" in Shreveport, Louisiana a few months ago, Burke was the center of a massive action scene between his character and a vengeful father from hell played by none other than Nicolas Cage. Burke took some time off from his shooting schedule to sit down and talk to the assembled press on a very warm May night. He was as candid and classy as you'd expect for a longtime Hollywood veteran.

New Post Up On @billy_burke 's site "YOU ARE THE FUEL" Spread the WORD!

by billy burke on July 13, 2010

There are few times in my life I can remember the anticipation of an event actually being outshone by it’s happening. I’m sure I’m not alone in recognizing that most times the climaxes we so fervently strive for, will pale in comparison to the dreamy visions we allow ourselves leading up to them.

The realization of this record showing up anywhere on a BILLBOARD CHART (this week #48 on the “Heatseekers” list) Much less becoming the NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER on CD Baby, the world’s largest online distributor of independent music, has left me in unfamiliar territory. I don’t know what the opposite of disenchanted is… but for the first time in a long while, that’s what I’m feeling and it’s pretty fucking great.

The upshot of this post is to exclaim in no uncertain terms that YOU who are reading this are directly responsible for the success this project is having. There is no ugly corporate monster pulling switches and manipulating the sales or promotion of this album. There’s no motive other than the desire to provide you all with some music that in turn, just happens to provide ME with an artistic outlet I’ve kept bottled up for more than a few years. In short, (and at the risk of sounding ridiculous) it’s just about LOVE, people. Love and music– the two undeniable, universal languages. It is solely the love and support that’s coming from all of YOU that is fueling this machine and with a portion of the album’s proceeds going to Vh1′s “Save The Music” program, we couldn’t be prouder or more ambitious to spread it as far and wide as we can.

I must confess that self promotion is an animal I’ve attempted to elude battle with throughout my entire career. My distaste for it even now, will no doubt keep me from saying some things that those around me would urge me to. It is only necessity that has compelled me on this new and long awaited venture to pick up my own megaphone and shout the word to anyone with willing ears. So, I guess what I’ve learned is– if you have a mission, there is no substitute for belief in yourself and with that, there is no shame in expressing that belief. It’s unlike me to be even mildly exhilarated by ANYTHING, but at this moment, I find myself on the precipice of a new awakening to EVERYTHING. I owe this revelation to all of YOU and I just wanted thank you for it.

Lastly, I must mention that releasing this album independently has taken tireless effort and selfless dedication from many people other than myself. Although I did put up my own funds to pay for this adventure, I have no desire to make it a narcissistic source of income. Those who know me would easily testify that my interest here is only to make music and create a way for it to be enjoyed by those who dig it. However, In order for that to happen and for “Save The Music” to benefit from the sales of this record, we do have to cover the costs. Once we sell enough units to do so, the kids’ music programs will get some money and everything else will go straight back into making music, videos and whatever else keeps the machine running. So… if you’re into what we’re doing here and you want to hear and see more, I ask only that you keep doing what you’re doing and help us promote by any method you choose. Retweets, Facebook, word of mouth, whatever– it’s all working.

You can order physical and digital copies of the album at CD Baby.

The album can be purchased on iTunes and Amazon as well.

Once again, thank you &

Much, much love my friends

"Twilight" Star Billy Burke Talks Tom Waits, Music, "Drive Angry"

"Twilight" Star Billy Burke Talks Tom Waits, Music, "Drive Angry"Twilight: Eclipse star Billy Burke, who plays Charlie Swan in the franchise, is not just an actor who also had a stint on 24. He is also a singer and musician, and a talented one, to boot.

Check out this exclusive, five-minute clip where Burke talks about playing guitar–he describes his early skills—until someone turned him on to Tom Waits, who Burke dubs as flawless and says is solely responsible for making him want to learn to play piano.

Removed is Burke's new album, and he culled the songs from a large collection of tunes that he has written through the years. Some of these songs have never seen the light of day till now; good thing he is a musical pack rat, of sorts! Check out his lilting, emotive voice, which pops up throughout this interview. He even talks about writing a song on a cocktail napkin and, of course, he divulges a little bit about his next flick alongside Nicolas Cage, Drive Angry.

Less talking, more watching.

Check out the exclusive video interview that Billy Burke did with IAMROGUE.com editor Jimmy O and ARTISTdirect.com and Dolor author Rick Florino HERE

Collider: Billy Burke From Comic Relief Charlie, to Music to Playing the Bad Guy

Billy Burke is nothing if not a straight shooter. He doesn’t mince words. Another great job from Collider.

“One of the things that stands out about these films is the very real relationship between Bella and her father. Do you have a favorite scene between the two of you?

Billy: I remember working on the kitchen scene, where Charlie inadvertently tries to talk to her about sex and protection. That was actually quite fun. We had a good time with that.

Do you think that Charlie is more Team Jacob than Team Edward, when it comes to Bella, or do you think his feelings toward Edward are gradually changing, over the course of the films?

Billy: First of all, Charlie would never play that game. He would never play the team game, nor would I. I have no interest in that. But, he’s obviously got a bent towards Jacob. Jacob is the son of his best friend and he looks at him as a good kid who’s a clean, strong influence. He still doesn’t know that much about Edward, but obviously there’s something weird about him. Charlie would always bend towards Jacob.

Charlie seems to get a little upset, though, when he finds out that Jacob kissed Bella.

Billy: That would be with any kid kissing your daughter. That’s just the way it goes. My daughter is only two years old right now and I don’t look forward to those moments.”

See more on Collider (The closing statement is great.)

EDITED: Billy also called in to Pennsylvania’s 98.5 this morning.
