Bryce Dallas Howard doesn't want a job because of her father

Whatever the impact of the Howard name, it was Bryce’s skill in nailing Rosalind in a New York production of As You Like It, aged 22, that kick-started her career, leading to her role in The Village, followed by Lars von Trier’s Manderlay, M Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water and Kenneth Branagh’s film adaptation of As You Like It. ‘Ken is brilliant. He has so much energy it is infectious and – this may seem completely obvious – he has a devout passion for Shakespeare.’

But it was the popcorn hits that placed her centre stage: Spider-Man 3, Terminator Salvation and her splashiest role so far, as the evil vampire Victoria in last year’s Twilight instalment Eclipse, opposite Kristen Stewart and heart-throbs Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, who were mobbed in Vancouver where they were filming.

‘The fans are very passionate,’ she says, ‘but Rob is totally humble and embarrassed about all the attention.’ She agrees that he is gorgeous. ‘I just knew that, in our fight scene, if I messed up his hair millions of young women would want to kill me.’

Hereafter, Starring Bryce D Howard, To Close Out 2010 New York Film Festival

We previously reported that David Fincher’s The Social Network would open this year’s New York Film Festival. Today, the Festival has announced that Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter will be the closing night film.

"Matt Damon plays a psychic in San Francisco who can’t connect emotionally with his girlfriend (Bryce Dallas Howard) and wants nothing to do with his powers; Cecile DeFrance plays a French TV journalist/talk show host who has a near death experience in the 2004 Tsunami and the third character is a young boy whose twin brother dies in an accident (played by unknowns Frankie and George McClaren). Slowly as the script evolves, their lives interconnect."

Bryce Dallas Howard Opens Up About Post Partum Depression

Bryce Dallas Howard like many women suffered from severe post partum depression, and more importantly, like many, many women she was in denial about what was controlling her life.

E! first alerted us to the article that Bryce had written on Gwenneth Paltrow’s blog. It’s an incredible read. If you have ever suffered with this disorder or know someone who has you’ll cry in recognition. If not, it’s really something every woman should read because you don’t know if it could strike you.

“A friend invited me to a “pow-wow” of mothers (in a tepee nonetheless); there we talked about the trials and tribulations of motherhood. The woman next to me coined the phrase “post partum denial,” and hearing her story helped me to understand my own. When I shared, somewhat disconnectedly and inarticulately some of my own disappointments, my feeling of not measuring up to what Theo deserved in a mother, one woman responded, “It takes a long time for them to grow up. You’ll have time to discover the kind of mother you are.” Another woman suggested I read Brooke Shields “Down Came the Rain.” Her book was a revelation.

Then one day I was sitting in my home with my best friend and my sister, and out of nowhere I got this sudden feeling of summer. When I told them they looked at me curiously and chuckled a little. I searched for a better way to describe my feelings, “I dunno, I just got this feeling… like everything is going to be okay.”

My depression was lifting. Later that day, I saw one of my closest friends; the person who had performed our wedding ceremony and had also videotaped Theo’s birth. He looked at me and without skipping a beat he said, “My friend is back.” I smiled. “It’s like you’ve been abducted by ‘The Borg’ for a year and a half, and now you’re back.”

The UK’s Telegraph has a really cute interview with Bryce Dallas Howard. Her dad may be a famous directors, but she didn’t grow up spoiled.

“Waiting for Bryce Dallas Howard at an Italian café in West Hollywood, I think back to a chance meeting, 14 years ago.

The actress happened to be sitting across the aisle from me and my then two-year-old daughter on what seemed like an interminable, turbulent flight from Los Angeles to New York.

The red-headed 15-year-old was travelling with her three younger siblings and politely offered to entertain my toddler.

I soon discovered that this engaging teenager was the daughter of the Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, who is known for decades of formidable hits – A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code, Frost/Nixon – but who is probably best remembered as the freckled Richie Cunningham from Happy Days.

The filmmaker and his wife, Cheryl, were at the front of the plane in first class, while the children – like my daughter and I – were in economy.

‘They would never throw the kids in first class. We knew we were lucky just to be on a plane,’ says Howard laughing, when we discuss the episode later.”

Don’t let her serene energy and stunning looks fool you — Bryce Dallas Howard knows how to go for the jugular. “I had to get in touch with my animal instincts,” says the 29-year-old actress about taking over the pivotal role of Victoria, the villainous vampire out for heroine Bella’s blood in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. “At one point, I was actually working out in my head, ‘How would you physically suck blood from someone’s neck? Would you take a breath first? Would you open up your throat to drink?’” Before heading to the theater on June 30 to see exactly how Victoria goes about hunting her prey this time, get to know the actress who brings her to life. Here, Howard — photographed exclusively for LIFE by editor-at-large Jeff Vespa — opens up about stepping into the high-profile franchise, branching out into other aspects of Hollywood (just like her famous dad, Ron), and becoming very good at playing bad.

A Fan of the Books

Replacing actress Rachelle Lefevre, who had portrayed Victoria in the first movie and in its 2009 sequel, New Moon, but was let go over scheduling conflicts, Howard had just one week to prepare before filming on Eclipse began. So it’s a good thing she was already quite familiar with the Stephenie Meyer novels that sparked the phenomenon. Reading the Twilight books before the first film, Howard tells LIFE, “I felt as if I had discovered an incredible world of characters that felt so personal and so real to me…. But I have to say, the experience of going from being a true fan of a series and reading all the books to actually getting to be a part of it has been pretty wild.” And how have the notoriously passionate Twilight devotees — so ardent they call themselves “Twihards” — adjusted to the casting switch? “The fans that I have met have all been lovely, welcoming, and supportive. They have held the same passion for this series as I do,” says Howard, whorecently encountered a screaming mass of them at Eclipse‘s Los Angeles premiere.

Xavier Samuel Takes Riley To New Heights As Our Hump

Robert Pattinson who? Taylor Lautner what? Listen we love those guys, but with "Eclipse" out now, Xavier Samuel has us thanking the good lord, or at least Victoria, that he's a part of the "Twilight Saga." The sexy newcomer impressed us so much, in fact, that he's this week's Hump Day Hottie.

Vital Stats: Whatever they put in the water is Australia must make the dudes that come out of their super hot. Xavier was raised on that fine island and the 26-year-old later studied drama to hone his acting skills. It's worked. We've never seen someone lead a pack of starving bloodsuckers quite like he does!

And, in case you're wondering how he feels about being this week's Hump Day Hottie, he is taking it all in stride, even if his co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Dakota Fanning think the honor is a bit humorous. "Well I just never thought something like would happen and when it does it's kind of surreal," he said with a hint of sarcasm. "You feel like you've made it."

Where you might have already seen him: He's done some theater (he once played Hamlet), and he's done a number of smaller films like "Newcastle," "Road Kill," "The Loved Ones" and "Dream Life." So, these would be great flicks call up on your Netflix list if you're hoping to see more of the man we will now refer to as Triple X. Yes, he's that hot.

Why you should take notice of him now: Well, he's in "Eclipse," for one. He plays newborn vampire Riley and happens to be quite the scene stealer. And, not to spoil it, since he, uh, won't exactly be in "Breaking Dawn," we suggest you see his epic turn STAT and relish every minute of it.

Why? If only to watch him emerge from the water over and over and over again. "Well, I'm lucky it was kind of covered the first night at drama school," he joked to MTV News at the "Eclipse" black carpet premiere about preparing for the scene. "Let me say a large source of inspiration for that scene was Denise Richards in 'Wild Things.'"

If you're sad he's not going to be in any more "Twilight" flicks (paging Bill Condon: can Riley please come back as a ghost?), don't fret because he just wrapped the Roland Emmerich flick, "Anonymous," co-starring Jamie Campbell Bower.
