MTV talks about the “Harry Potter” Vs “Twilight” Debate

If you caught our “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ premierelive stream last week then you’ve already been introduced to the fact that I am a pretty huge “Harry Potter” fan. I’ve been reading these books since I was 11 years old and seen each film the weekend it’s been released since “Sorcerer’s Stone” first hit theaters.

That being said, I’ve also kept up to date on the “Twilight” franchise, though I didn’t get into the books until after “Eclipse” was released. I thought “Breaking Dawn” was a pretty big letdown (so sue me, I thought Edward was going to reclaim his “soul” and return to his human form, allowing him and Bella to live happily ever after without her being changed to a vampire), and I haven’t been in love with the movies. So while my “Twilight” knowledge ranks up there with the best of them, I wouldn’t say I’m the series’ biggest fan.

Now that I have fully disclosed where I stand on the “Potter” versus “Twilight” debate, it should come as no surprise that I was pretty disappointed when I found out that Moviefone decided that “Twilight” did a better job converting the novels to the screen than “Harry Potter” did. Uhh, what? Andrew Sims from Mugglenetdebated Laura Byrne-Cristiano’s, the co-leading lady over at Twilight Lexicon. The debate was a little skewed because both Andrew and Laura are fans of their respective opposingfranchises (and both had/have fan sites dedicated to them as well!)… but somehow Laura managed to get the best of Andrew and give “Twilight” the lead.

Harry Potter Falls Short of Twilight's Midnight Record!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 brought in $24 million domestically from its midnight showings, which falls short of the midnight grosses for both The Twilight Saga’s New Moon and Eclipse.

According to Deadline, Deathly Hallows has set the third highest midnight gross of any movie ever and also the highest for a Harry Potter movie.

Eclipse set the record earlier this year with $30 million at midnight, which broke the previous Twilight film New Moon’s record of $26.3 million.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brought in $22 million at midnight in 2009.

Warner Bros. is expecting that Deathly Hallows - Part 1 could open to a massive $135 million this weekend, which would shatter the opening weekend record for a Potter film!

Universal Orlando plans to represent Cedric Diggory on it’s Harry Potter Dragon Challenge attraction

Faith­ful­ness to the film series trumped thor­ough­ness in the case of the Dragon Chal­lenge attrac­tion. Many fans, includ­ing one audi­ence mem­ber on this night, have noted that there are no ban­ners or signs posted in the attraction’s queue in sup­port of pop­u­lar char­ac­ter Cedric Dig­gory (played inGob­let of Fire by a pre–Twi­light Robert Pat­tin­son). Paul Dau­rio fielded this ques­tion him­self, “I want to per­son­ally apol­o­gize for not rep­re­sent­ing for Cedric and the Huf­flepuff house.” Big applause erupted from the crowd. Twilight vs. Harry Potter: Team Rob or Team Rob?

It's the final round of our Twi-Potter Tournament, a weeklong showdown with daily duels between the two smash-hit franchises. Today's face-off is between Robert Pattinson's roles in each series:

Cedric Diggory: With his bright smile and ruddy cheeks, Rob is simply dashing as the doomed captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. And he had great hair even then!

Rupert Grint feels sorry for Robert Pattinson

Star Rupert Grint has revealed that he feels really bad for Robert Pattinson because of the 'crazy' crowds of fans which follow the actor around. Grint, who shared screen space with the actor in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', is shocked by how quickly the ''Twilight star'' Pattinson has hogged the lime light since his first vampire movie in 2008.

Buzz up!Though Grint is often recognised by Potter fans - the actor admits he's glad he doesn't have to deal with overwhelming groups of devoted admirers like Pattinson. "I get recognised occasionally but nothing like that. It's crazy. You just can't really go anywhere," the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

"I've got a much more manageable existence. It's just come from nowhere. It's such a quick thing. Good luck to him," he added.
