Harry Potter Falls Short of Twilight's Midnight Record!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 brought in $24 million domestically from its midnight showings, which falls short of the midnight grosses for both The Twilight Saga’s New Moon and Eclipse.

According to Deadline, Deathly Hallows has set the third highest midnight gross of any movie ever and also the highest for a Harry Potter movie.

Eclipse set the record earlier this year with $30 million at midnight, which broke the previous Twilight film New Moon’s record of $26.3 million.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brought in $22 million at midnight in 2009.

Warner Bros. is expecting that Deathly Hallows - Part 1 could open to a massive $135 million this weekend, which would shatter the opening weekend record for a Potter film!

Highly anticipated role of 'Renesmee' now being cast for Breaking Dawn Part I

The casting directors for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I" are now casting the role of "Young Renesmee". They are looking for a young girl who has some acting experience and is confident on a film set environment. This girl should have self-composure, good physical posture, and be very attentive, able to take direction well, and be quick to react. They also would prefer a girl with dance training.

The casting directors are not having open casting calls for this role due to the extremely high profile nature of the project. Rene Haynes, who was the casting director that handled Native American roles for the Twilight Saga films New Moon and Eclipse, held open casting calls for the films. She was quoted as saying, “It was crazy, especially in the early days, in the first four weeks after the announcement that my office was casting these roles we stopped counting emails after 20,000. We had created a dedicated email address for the project. We got so many we had to create another one."

After an open casting call was posted on Craigslist for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the day was filled with tears and disappointment as hordes of teens from all over North America were eventually turned away. Since many teens came from far and wide, including some from Florida, Washington, Oregon, and other cities, the early end to the open auditions sparked a wave of emotions as tears began to flow while others in the crowd became angry after standing and waiting almost all night in the Vancouver cold for the casting call.

There are currently three casting companies working on Breaking Dawn 1 & 2, and they all have gone public with email addresses. These email addresses have been flooded to the point of becoming filled to capacity and many submissions are being returned as "undeliverable" or "email not valid". These email addresses are likely created mainly to appease the masses and are not being used for actual casting purposes.

'Twilight' college course up and running

Back in March, the first full-length college course on the Twilight series was announced here, and now the course is up and running for California State University's Fall 2010 program.

The class description is as follows: "Examines the Twilight saga and the resulting fandom. Explores Twlight in relation to the social and cultural construction of gender and gendered identities in contemporary U.S. culture. Using an intersectional lens emphasizing gender, race, class, sexuality, and belief, provides students with the conceptual and analytical foundations to think more deeply about popular culture and its impact. Covers vampire lore, the romantic core of the series, female characters and fans, the depiction of men and masculinity, religious contexts, race and white privilege, the franchising of Twilight, and various cultural contexts such as abstinence only education and the rise of internet fandoms."

When we discussed the course back in March, it was noted that the professor, Dr. Natalie Wilson, intended to make the course open to the public as much as possible by utilizing a blog to correspond to the course teachings. Her blog is available here.

Wilson's latest entry for the blog catalogues some of the progress that she has made with the course, noting student observations such as "Bella, if she had a Facebook account, would regularly post the update 'another rainy day'", and "

The dismissal of female fans perpetuates the message that anything women like can’t be good." Read the rest here.

Some sources recently caught wind of the offering, and after checking back into the topic, it seems that indeed the course is fully underway, and fans can go ahead and tune in to what's being said about this subject matter in the first full-length college course on Twilight. It should be really interesting to see what Dr. Wilson and her course find about the Saga through this platform.

The Loved Ones Hits DVD and Blu-ray in the UK

Our friends across the pond once again shoot and score! Yep, another film we're dying for here in the States is hitting Blu-ray and DVD in the UK and all that we can do is drool. Well, that and import!

Optimum Home Entertainment has announced the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Loved Ones for the 4th of October in the UK. Extras include: Interviews with Director and Cast and B-Roll Footage.

Dakota Fanning promotes holiday cards to benefit Mattel Children's Hospital

Dakota Fanning ("Jane" in The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) has put her influence to good use once again by promoting UCLA's Mattel Children's Hospital's Holiday Cards promotion in this new video.

According to UCLA Mattel Children Hospital's website, "[t]he Holiday Card Art Program strives to create opportunities for "kids to be kids" during an abnormal situation. Artists engage children at bedside to facilitate creative expression during lengthy hospitalizations. This creative collection features cards of the season created by young patients who share their interpretation of holiday celebrations from the bedside." Also, "Proceeds from card sales benefit the Child Life/Child Development Program, whose specialists work with young patients at bedside to assist creative expression and ease fear and anxiety during lengthy hospitalizations."

'Twilight' Hunk, Peter Facinelli, Tells WPXI 'Pittsburgh's Great'

PITTSBURGH -- Hottie "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli stopped by The Mall at Robinson Saturday for a meet and greet with hundreds of Pittsburgh fans.

Facinelli plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the widely popular movie series.

"I don't sing and I don't dance, but I can sign my name pretty good," Facinelli joked with the crowd during "Twilight Fan Fest." "Thank you for coming out to visit me. I love all of you," he said.

A portion of the proceeds from the event benefited the charity Alex's Lemonade Stand which helps with pediatric cancer research.

Kristen Stewart And Robert Pattinson Dish On Twilight And ReinforcingTeen Virginity

Both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who folks are saying are romantically involved behind closed doors, are aware of the impact that the Twilight series is having on the 'cool' factor being increased in teen virginity. The idea is that this romantic series, which focuses on a man being willing to wait for his counterpart - not an easy task when she looks like Kristen Stewart - is resonating very well on teen girls who want to be relieved of the stress of being forced into sexual situations. The folks over at E! News caught up with the undercover lovers to discuss their movie and its relation to chastity:

"Oh my god, definitely," Kristen Stewart told us on the carpet with the stern-yet-sweet look she exhibits so well. "I feel like everything in our movie—the reason people love it so much—is because it's everything that we experience. It's like put on this...I don't want to say ideological...It's just put on this level that it is fantasy love. You feel like when you're in love it's fake almost. I feel like that's how everyone feels."

Spoken like a girl who has been truly smitten before! Speaking of, Robert Pattinson, in his über-cool, maroon Gucci suit, added that he has no clue if holding out for something great is in touch with teens today, but it's what he is used to.

"I hope so," Pattinson dished about whether Edward's self-control is relatable to guys his age.

"I don't know, I didn't really go to a normal high school," Robert Pattinson ‘fessed. He added, "I went to a very romantic high school."

Summit Entertainment Announces Bill Condon as Director of “Breaking Dawn”

At around 12:00PM CST on April 28th, Summit Entertainment sent out a press release officially announcing Academy Award Winning Director Bill Condon as the director of Breaking Dawn. Condon, best known for writing and directing “Dream Girls”, “Kinsey” and “Gods and Monsters”, said “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. Summit Entertainment Announces Stephenie Meyer as co-Producer of “Breaking Dawn”

Summit to Eclipse New Moon

As if we didn't have enough DVD's of New Moon set to be released, Summit Entertainment has announced that Walmart will have exclusive rights to a New Moon "fan's edition" special 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray. An exclusive 7 minute clip of the much anticipated and hardly publicized third film in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse will be attached. Unfortunately we STILL have to wait to buy it on March 20th. Eclipse is set to hit theaters June 30th. Walmart will also open "Twilight Saga Shops" in their stores with exclusive Saga merchandise, including Eclipse goodies.
